Something Is Starting to Break. She Sees It First.

The Damned CityLuceWriting Process

It's not random anymore. And that's when it gets dangerous.

The fractures in the system — the ones most people never notice — have started to connect. What looked like isolated incidents are forming a pattern. Streets going quiet in sequence. Wards failing in ways they shouldn't. The boundary between Los Angeles and what lies beneath it thinning in places it never has before.

Luce sees it first. She always does.

That's the thing about someone who's spent three thousand years reading the signs: she doesn't need the pattern to be complete to know what it means. She sees the trajectory. The acceleration. The point where "something is off" becomes "something is coming."

When I write these moments in The Damned City series, I'm not writing about supernatural events. I'm writing about recognition. The moment when a character who has survived everything realizes that this time is different. Not harder — different. The rules are shifting. The container is under stress. And the things that were supposed to stay on their side of the line are testing the boundaries.

It was never just Luce. There are others who see what she sees. Others who operate in the spaces between what's visible and what's real. And when the system starts showing stress fractures, they don't coordinate — they converge. Drawn to the same pressure points by the same instinct.

That convergence is where the story gets dangerous. Not because of what's breaking loose — but because of what has to be done to hold it.

The Damned City series continues. The system doesn't fix itself. It gets handled.

Devil's Daughter Is A Demon Hunter is available now on Amazon. City of Lost Angels is coming soon.
